Yes, but to make it tolerable you need to turn alot of stuff off.

I have Windows 7 Starter, and I have had no problem with it.

as opposed to others here, win 7 is the most stable, bug-free consumer version of windows microsoft has ever released. That being said, your computer is pretty minimalistic for running it. the single core cpu with only 1gb of ram is your big problem. and the 16gb hard drive too, 7 takes up about 3GB while xp takes around 1.5GB. It would do it, but it probably would be a little sluggish.

izzy or whatever the name is doesn’t have a clue. Windows 7 should run pretty well on your machine. I use it on a 3 year old laptop with 784 megs of ram and it runs fine. Now you understand it won’t support gaming and any intensive applications but for word processing, email, web browsing, and other things that most people need, it will work well. You also can’t use the fancy Aero glass interface but most people can deal with this. As to doing things with XP that you can’t do with Windows, I have no idea what that person is talking about. Windows 7 does everything that XP does and much, much more. As I said, that person is clueless. One other thing, you can’t upgrade from XP to 7. You can only upgrade from Vista to 7. XP to 7 requires a fresh format and installation.

i would strongly suggest that you keep xp as windows 7 and vista still have bugs, you cant do a lot of things with windows 7 that you can with xp (i.e play games at all) and also windows 7 just has a few more bells and whistles thatsit and it also eats up more of yoru specs before its booted up
